How Virginia's verified credit works

• Standard Diploma: students earn 22 standard credits plus verified credits, including verified credit in mathematics.
• What's a verified credit? You earn it by passing the course AND passing the associated SOL end-of-course test — for math, typically the Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II SOL.
• What the math SOL covers: the Virginia SOL for Algebra I and Geometry — equations, functions, graphs, linear & quadratic relationships, triangles, the Pythagorean theorem, circles, and coordinate geometry.
• Other routes: the Board of Education approves certain substitute tests (such as some AP, IB, or industry-credential exams) that can earn verified credit in place of the SOL.
