How the practice works

A worked solution on every question
Not just the letter. Each answer opens into the full reasoning, so a wrong answer teaches you something instead of just costing a point.
Full-length mocks under the real clock
Each mock is drawn at random from a much larger pool, so you can sit it again and again and meet new questions each time.
You see which topics are weak
Accuracy is tracked per topic, and every question you miss lands in a wrong-answer notebook you can work through later.
Six months, re-take as often as you like
One purchase covers the whole prep window — practice, mock, review, repeat, at whatever pace the exam date allows.

AMC 8 — Frequently asked questions

What is the AMC 8?

The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute multiple-choice competition run by the Mathematical Association of America. Each correct answer is worth 1 point, and there is no penalty for a wrong answer or a blank, so the maximum score is 25. It is the entry rung of the American Mathematics Competitions.

Who can take the AMC 8?

Eligibility has two conditions and a student must meet both: grade 8 or below, and under 15.5 years old on competition day. The age cap surprises families more often than the grade cap — a student who is academically ready can still be too old.

Should my child guess on the AMC 8?

Yes. A blank and a wrong answer are both worth 0 on the AMC 8, so there is nothing to lose by answering every question. This is the opposite of the AMC 10 and 12, where a blank is worth 1.5 points and reckless guessing costs you.

How do I prepare for the AMC 8?

Two things: know the topics, and survive the clock. 40 minutes for 25 problems is about 96 seconds each, and pacing is a skill you can only train by practising at contest pace. Our practice is organised by topic so you can attack one weakness at a time, then run full-length timed mocks at the real 40-minute limit.

Are these real AMC 8 problems?

No. Every problem is independently authored in the AMC 8 style. We do not reproduce past competition problems. Our practice is a companion to the official materials, not a substitute.

Does the AMC 8 lead to the AIME?

No — AIME qualification comes from the AMC 10 and AMC 12, not the AMC 8. The AMC 8 is where students build the habits: reading a competition problem, recognising the structure, and working under a clock. It is the on-ramp to the ladder, not a rung of the qualification path.

Is this affiliated with the MAA?

No. Texas CBE™ is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America. AMC® and AMC 8® are registered trademarks of the MAA.
